16 December 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee (2007) kick-off meeting

On 16th December 2006, the JHC OBA NSW Committee kick off meeting was held at Pratheepan's residence

03 December 2006 - JHC OBA Sydney - Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Dinner

The Annual General Meeting that was held at Homebush Boys' High School on Sunday, 3rd December and was attended by approximately 40 Old Boys. The musical event and dinner that followed the AGM was attended by approximately 120 people. In addition, a karaoke show was held and there were many participants and after the dinner, the "Pattukku Pattu" competition took place. Overall, it was a very enjoyable event that was commended by all who attended. The Arirasasingham Memorial Award was presented in honour of the late Mr. Arirasasingham to Theepika Rajkumar, who is in Year 12 at North Sydney Girls High School. In the Geethavani Awards Souvenir Booklet, we had a Maths Challenge where anyone who submitted their answers and received a score of 100% would be awarded a prize. Theepika Rajkumar won this competition and was thus the recipient of this award for 2006.Congratulations to the incoming president Pratheepan Thanabalasingham and his 2007 Executive Committee.

25 November 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting at Sunil's Restaurant

The JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was held at Sunil's Restaurant to finalise plans for the AGM on the 3rd December. The main discussion was about the program of events for the night of the AGM. This meeting was followed by dinner at Sunil's Restaurant with the member's families and the JHC OBA Sydney Cricket team.

29 October 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting

The JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Pratheepan at his residence on Sunday, 29th October. Plans for the AGM was discussed and invitations letters to all the members were distributed. Tasks were allocated to each member in preparation for the AGM.

29 September 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting

The JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Guna at his residence on Friday, 29th September. The venue and date for the AGM were discussed and a draft task list was created.

24 September 2006 - JHC OBA Sydney vs. Hartley College Annual Cricket Match

JHC OBA Sydney and Hartley College had their annual cricket match on Sunday 24th September at the Ollie Webb Park in Parramatta from 10:30am to 4:00pm. JHC OBA Sydney won the toss and elected to bat first. JHC OBA scored 238 runs in 30 overs. The main scorers were Gowrishankar (47 runs) who was steady and consistent with his batting, Ranjuthan (78 runs) who made sure that the fielders were always running and also won the best Batsman award, Gopishankar (47 runs) who hit consecutive 6's and 4's and also Suba (17 runs) who was a quick scorer towards the end of the match. JHC OBA Sydney won by 132 runs and 7 overs spare. This was a wonderful achievement. The captain of the JHC OBA team was Varathakeyan who led the team to their victory. Hartley College scored 106 runs in 23 overs and JHC OBA's player Ashokkumar won the best bowler award for taking 5 wickets for 26 runs. The referees for the match were Petersingham representing Hartley College OBA and Ambikairajah representing JHC OBA Sydney. The 2nd JHC OBA team (playing with semi-leather ball) also played well, but unfortunately lost by a small margin.Close to 100 people came to this event to support the team and it was a wonderful get-together for the members and their families; it was a fantastic day to remember.

27 August 2006 – JHC OBA Sydney vs. Hartley College Tennis Event 2006

The first ever tennis event between JHC OBA Sydney and Hartley College was held on Sunday 27th August at the Southend Tennis Club, Enfield from 9am to 1pm. JHC OBA Sydney had regular tennis practice sessions over the past few weeks and the JHC OBA team consisted of 18 players (10 adults and 8 children). The competition had 3 categories: Over 35s, Under 20 Boys and the Girls. The JHC OBA Over 35s group had 4 teams who competed against the Hartley College Over 35s. Hartley College won the overall event, but JHC OBA Sydney played very well and it was not an easy win for Hartley College. Sivakumar was our captain and he did a great job in leading the team. Our congratulations go to the Hartley College team. Thanks to Blue Elephant Restaurant for sponsoring the major trophy for the event.The children from both the JHC OBA team and Hartley team also played very well and had good sportsmanship. All in all, it was an enjoyable day for the members and their families who attended. Thanks also to everyone for the short eats and drinks that were brought along. Everyone had an excellent time and we look forward to next year’s tennis event.

15 July 2006 – JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting

JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Rajayogan at his residence on Saturday, 15th July. The 2 main items that were discussed at our meeting were organising a date for the cricket match as soon as possible and setting a date for the AGM. Ideas for starting a tennis competition were also discussed. After the meeting, the Executive Committee had a wonderful get-together that included a delicious meal and karaoke. All members were present with their families.

16 June 2006 – Geethavani Awards Debriefing Meeting

The Geethavani Awards Debriefing meeting were held on Friday 16th June at Pratheepans residence. Many positive comments about the Geethavani Awards were sent to the committee, and these were discussed at the meeting. Suggestions for further improvements for the Geethavani Awards 2007 were also discussed.

11 June 2006 – Geethavani Awards 2006

The Geethavani Awards were held on Sunday 11th June at the Ryde Civic Centre and tickets sold out very quickly. The 15 contestants all performed at a very high standard and were highly commended by the audience. The winner of the age 12-18 years category was Ramesh Balou Iyer. Saumiya Satkurunathan was the winner of the age 19-35 years category. The winner of the over 35 years category was Rajayogan Rajalingam. Between each category of singers, the Musical Director ‘Maestro’ ‘Visharadh’ Sarangan Sriranganathan provided outstanding performances of his renowned fusion music, which was very well received by the audience. All in all, the whole event was a big success and JHC OBA Sydney received praise from the audience for the professionalism of this innovative event.

10 June 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting

The JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Nanthan at his residence on Saturday, 10th June. A final check of the tasks was done to ensure that everything was complete. The order of events was discussed with the Masters of Ceremonies.

4 June 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting

The JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Aravindhan at his residence on Sunday, 4th June. A sample souvenir booklet was distributed for the committee members to assess and various changes were made to the sample. Sponsorship for the raffle and ballot papers for voting were also discussed.

28 May 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting

The JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Ambikairajah at his residence on Sunday, 28th May. Sarangan also attended this meeting to discuss the selection of Masters of Ceremonies and informed the committee that the training of contestants was ongoing. The contents of the souvenir booklet were the main topic of discussion. Two new items were added to the booklet – ‘recent achievements of past JHC students in academia’ and also a sample maths paper suitable for HSC students, along with some challenging maths questions.

21 May 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting

The JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Varathan at his residence on Sunday, 21 May. Discussions included ticket sales, production of the souvenir booklets, assigned duties for members and a group photo was taken.

14 May 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting

The JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Jeyakanthan at his residence on Sunday, 14th May. Sarangan also attended this meeting and the voting system, order of performance and other aspects of the event were discussed. Announcers for the night were selected and more tickets were distributed. Sarangan has started to train the candidates.

7 & 8 May 2006 – Live Auditions

The Live Audition for the Geethavani Awards was hosted at Ambikairajah’s residence on Sunday 7th May and Monday 8th May. Participants sang in front of the Music Director and 2 Executive Committee members. 15 contestants were selected for the competition. The decision was difficult because the standard was very high.

30 April 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting

The JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Nesa at his residence on Sunday, 30th April. Discussions included confirming reference numbers on all tapes received, ticket sales, production of souvenir booklet and sponsorship for the event

01 April 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting

The JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Rajayogan at his residence on Saturday, 1st April. Discussions included ticket sales for the Geethavani Awards and posters advertising the event were distributed amongst the members for promotion.

5 March 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting

The JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Elangkumaran at his residence on Sunday, 5th March. Tickets and leaflets for the Geethavani Awards were distributed to the Executive Committee members and discussions at the meeting included ideas for promotion (radio, television, newspapers etc) and also sponsorship for the event

26 February 2006 - JHC OBA QLD Inaugurated on 26th February 2006

Jaffna Hindu College Old Boys Association Queensland – Australia has been inaugurated by enthusiastic old boys, who were residing in Queensland Australia on last Sunday (26th February 2006)

24 February 2006 - JHC OBA NSW makes $8,000 donation to JHC for Digital Duplicator

JHC OBA NSW donated AUD $8,000 for the purchase of a digital duplicator for Jaffna Hindu College. After regular communication with the JHC principal, it was decided that a digital duplicator would be of great benefit to the staff and students of the JHC.

19 February 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting

The JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Aravindhan at his residence on Sunday 19th February. Preparations for the Geethavani Awards took priority at this meeting and sponsorship was also discussed.

5 February 2006 - JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee Meeting

The JHC OBA NSW Executive Committee meeting was hosted by Gunaranchithan at his residence on Sunday 5th February. ‘Maestro’ ‘Wadya’ ‘Visharadh’ Sarangan Sri Ranganathan was in attendance at this meeting to discuss the Geethavani Awards and its implementation for the JHC OBA Sydney Event in June 2006

27 January 2006 - JHC OBA Sydney Meeting with Mr. Kiruparatnam

On 27th January 2006, members of the JHC OBA NSW Committee had a meeting with Mr. Kiruparatnam which was held at Aravindhan's residence. Mr. Kiruparatnam is a JHC Old Boy and was a member of JHC OBA Colombo for many years. He is currently an active member of the JHC OBA Trust. Some of the matters that were discussed include funding needs for JHC and also the JHC OBA Trust.
